Relief Society Spring Conference

Hi everyone, On April 20, 2013 a wonderful Relief Society Spring conference was held. I thought for those that were unable to make it I would post the classes and activities that were held.  The theme for the meeting was "In the Meantime" taken from a song by Tyler Castleton and Staci Peters.  The booths and classes were great ideas of great things to do "in-the-meantime" whether life is going like we planned or not!  There were a couple of service projects that were going on as well.  3 beautiful quilts were set up by Sister Larsen and Sister Toone.  2 will be donted to CAPSA and one will go to a sister in our stake.  Sister Watts also helped with the "Stay Cool After School" backpack project.  You can still donate through the food pantry.  For more information see https://www.facebook.com/StillCoolAfterSchoolBackpackProgram?fref=ts

Sister Duersh gave a very inspiring message, you can access her talk by clicking on the page on the side.
The following is a list of the classes and booths that were offered that day.  Links to the handouts that were handed out at each class and booth that day are also posted on the side.

CLASSES OFFERED

Sisters could attend three classes.  See the descriptions below and the links to their handouts:

“Growing” a 72 hour Kit by Sister Allen & Sister Hopkins
A 72 hour kit is more than a back pack or suitcase!  Our experts gave information on how to prepare a “Grab & Go Kit” containing the very basics, and “growing” it to accommodate more supplies to make the emergency as stress-less and normal (whatever that is in a disaster!) as possible.

BOOTHS AVAILABLE

Top Ten Tips for Managing Your Photos by Sister Raymond
In this booth, Debbie Raymond shared her TOP TEN TIPS for getting your photos out of digital (or shoebox) storage and into scrapbooks, blogs, history albums, and more. Debbie, Anna Jean Skidmore, and others had lots of ideas and examples.  Photo collecting and sharing has changed and overwhelmed many of us in the digital age. We’ve amassed thousands of photos on our phones and hard drives – but can’t figure out how to organize, share, and display our precious images. And, if we’re digital immigrants with analog-era minds, we don’t even know where to begin. Come to our booth and help us discover solutions and share your photo strategies.
Family Tree-Research/Histories/Record Keeping by Sister Harris
Family Tree is a program that is still in the Beta form but before long will take the place of Family Search and New Family Search programs.  We are encouraged to use it now.  You will be able to correct relationships, dates and spelling.  Photos can be added along with histories.  Indexing helps to get more on-line research to search.  An idea on how to keep the records will be available as well as other suggestions on what to include in writing histories.  Various types of completed histories will be available to look through.  Researching is like a treasure map; clues need to be followed, but along the way, unexpected “treasures” are collected.
Good Books by Sister Parkinson, Sister Willmore, Sister Stephens and Sister Grewe
Are you tired of being in the same place, never having any fun, always having to do what others want, taking care of children and their schedules and feeling like every day looks just like the one before it? Link to book ideas and find all kinds of “relief” from a hum-drum life.   Good books will carry you to far-away places, create mysteries for you to solve, provide humor and ways to look at life differently, give you something to look forward to at the end of another challenging day, inspire you to try new things and stimulate your mind.  Open new horizons – read for life!
Family Activities by Sister Smart, Sister May, Sister Swenson
Click on this link for great ideas for fun family activities.  These lists are for families with young children AND for families with teenagers.
